Our story

Two riders who grew up among horses

Sharon and Alwin were already riding as children. Now they run Stal Severein in Huissen together.

We both grew up among horses. Our parents competed with passion and we were on a pony from a young age. So it was no surprise that we made it our profession.

From Deurne to the KWPN team

At seventeen, Sharon started the equestrian training programme in Deurne. She then did an internship with Albert and Vincent Voorn, well-known show jumpers. She stayed on to work there for another six years.

When she was 22, Sharon was part of Vincent Voorn’s team. She rode the horses at home that did not travel to competitions. After that she started her own yard in Huissen. Later, show jumper Alwin joined her.

For many years Sharon rode for the KWPN team. The KWPN is the Dutch warmblood studbook. Cor Loeffen asked her to do so. He was her teacher in Deurne and chairman of the KWPN committee that judges show jumpers. After that she worked for a few more years at Glock, where riders such as Edward Gal and Hans Peter Minderhoud were based.

Alwin Berendsen, born in 1978

From pony rider to 1.40 metres

Alwin also grew up with horses. As a pony rider he won at Z level, one of the highest classes, in both jumping and dressage. He then moved on to horses. They were kept at home, so he could combine school, work and riding.

At first Alwin competed with his own horses. Soon other owners asked him to train their horses. Now he rides horses up to 1.40 metres, when they are ready for it.

Anyone is welcome to drop by at any time of day. But if they want me to have time for them, it helps to call ahead. Because most of the time I’m on a horse.Alwin Berendsen

The next generation

Lynn is Sharon and Alwin’s daughter. She started out successfully on ponies. She now competes internationally at 1.20 metres, with Bingo and Hardousch. In 2026 she and Hardousch won the Hartog competition for Children, a class for young riders.

Our ambition

Our goal: more horses at international level

We ride all the horses ourselves, here at the yard. That way we see every day how things are going and what a horse needs.

That is why we choose carefully. We don’t ride horses just to send an invoice, nor horses we don’t have a good feeling about.

Our goal is to train a horse as effectively as possible. Focused, but also playful.
